The National Archives held a press conference today to announce they'd located an original, handwritten note from Abraham Lincoln to Henry Halleck. . . a note that Henry Halleck reproduced verbatim in a telegram to General Meade (a telegram that was published in the Official Records, vol. 27, pt. 1, p. 83).
It's nice to know the original has been found. But a press conference? I haven't been this let down since Geraldo opened up Capone's vault.

Thanks for the link to Capone's vault. Homer Simpson's lyric "There was nothing in Al Capone's vault, but it wasn't Geraldo's fault" gave me a real chuckle.

Dave,
No one captures the essence of a moment better than Homer.
