Their last name was Paul and he was well versed in the history of JPJ. I learned quite a bit through him and the family tales that had been passed down through his family.DAGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14685772539702013751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19295676.post-45579327721754422732011-09-22T11:18:53.694-07:002011-09-22T11:18:53.694-07:00Hi Drew,

I suspect it was school library standard. I had forgotten everything about it but the aggrandizement.

It couldn't have been Samuel Eliot Morison's 1959 biography -- I'm sure that would have been above my reading level at the time.

Daviddwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01748726942956990159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19295676.post-64841880044481500922011-09-22T09:30:42.963-07:002011-09-22T09:30:42.963-07:00I wonder if you and I read the same biography. I ...I wonder if you and I read the same biography. I have no idea of the title or author, but it was already old by the time I read it as a grade schooler in the early 80s. It seemed to posit that Jones was motivated by family tales of revenge for Culloden, and I can still remember the deadly fight between Jones and a crewman that led to Jones having to flee, as well as the great naval battles. As a class project, I even made a Bonhomme Richard diorama. Although I never have sought out a scholarly biography to read, Jones was definitely a figure that fired my imagination as a kid.DW@CWBAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00018056113264346047noreply@blogger.com
