I remember when I asked Bob Younger about it around the time the revised edition first came out, he gave me a decidedly unhelpful single sentence answer...LOL..typical Bob.DW@CWBAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00018056113264346047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19295676.post-1160699069967128722006-10-12T17:24:00.000-07:002006-10-12T17:24:00.000-07:00Drew,Good question. It's alternately referred to as an "expanded edition" and a "revision," but as far as I can tell, the main difference is the added material at the end, putting forth Sword’s theory that Johnson died quite a ways away from where the Park Service placed the marker. The only thing I’ve read in the new book is this appendix, and it’s been so long since I read the rest, I would be challenged to notice any changes.

I would guess that if you’ve read the original multiple times, nothing about the new edition will change or enhance your understanding of the battle.

After our conference at Shiloh, Sword graciously met 4 of us out at the battlefield on Sunday morning, and walked us into the woods to make his case for the why the Park Service should build a path and erect a marker to the “real” death site (they won’t do it). He was pretty convincing, and the lay of the land dovetails nicely with his myriad sources, but ultimately it’s just a footnote to the fighting there.dwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01748726942956990159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19295676.post-1160690382734124552006-10-12T14:59:00.000-07:002006-10-12T14:59:00.000-07:00David,Do you think there is enough new information...David,
Do you think there is enough new information/corrections(?) in the revised edition of Sword's book to justify its purchase (I've read the first edition a few times)? I've been debating whether to pick it up for quite a while.

DrewDW@CWBAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00018056113264346047noreply@blogger.com
